Accessible PE
We offer advice and professional development for educators on how to plan and deliver accessible PE programmes. Whatever a learner’s needs whether they have a hearing or visual impairment, areas of paralysis, sensory or processing needs for example we can provide support.
As educators it is our responsibility to make sure that all our learners can access physical education lessons that are safe, enjoyable and engaging that provide an appropriate level of challenges, opportunities for independence and activities with peers.
We understand how challenging designing accessible PE can be. Whether you are supporting learners with no vision, profound deafness, conditions affecting bones/muscle development or areas of paralysis for example, we will work with you to understand the learner’s strengths and areas for development. This can involve meetings with the learner, observations, discussions with family/careers, correspondence with external health agencies prior to the design of the support. As the we work together through the PE programme it is expected, as it is with all teaching, that adaptations will be made in accordance with the learner’s progress. The professional development will provide the educator with an enriched understanding of making PE more accessible in general and specific knowledge on how to support the specific learner.
